Government of Alberta – Culture and Community Spirit Grant Program

Community Spirit Grant

Thanks to the Community Spirit grant the generosity of individual donors to The PREP Program was matched with a government grant of $25,000. The grant program is in its inaugural year and PREP was able to include those generous individual donors who made a donation:

  • in memory of a loved one

  • through United Way Donor Choice

  • as part of their annual gift giving

  • to fundraisers such as Let’s Talk Hockey

It is wonderful that the Government of Alberta encourages Albertans to donate and support causes in the community close to their hearts.

Scope of Project

The funds were used to offset the costs of a major renovation to The PREP Program that has benefitted our clients immensely and adds to the welcome families receive at PREP. There are now 2 additional offices for reading tutoring and/or speech-language therapy. In addition the multipurpose room now has a room divider, so that we can have classes, meetings or workshops booked at the same time. The waiting room now has a small refreshment area where parents can enjoy a cup of coffee and students can get a cold drink. All of the improvements have been met with enthusiasm and much appreciation by our families.

Our friends at Hopewell stepped up and the project was completed “at cost” to The PREP Program. From the design to construction to completion; the Hopewell crew did an outstanding job!

KidsUpFront

Kids Up Front

Kids Up Front lives up to its name! PREP families have enjoyed everything from concerts, hockey games, and even fireworks; thanks to the generosity of their donors. It is great to see our students out and about at community events; their confidence grows with each experience and their family’s pride in turn.

Iggy Fund

Allie Price -”IGGY” Fund

Allie followed in her Mom’s footsteps and loves English sheepdogs. Her Mom raises them and Allie shows them in competition. Every time Allie wins a class with her pal, Iggy, she donates the winnings to PREP.

The Iggy Fund is growing and we look forward to Allie accomplishing a new goal, showing at the Canadian Nationals.

The funds are used in PREP 4 to purchase new materials and other great stuff for Allie and her friends.

Calgary Zoo

Attending sleepover camp at the Calgary Zoo is a much loved tradition for PREP 3 students at PREP! The Calgary Zoo staff are wonderful to our students and they keep on giving. This year PREP students were invited to apply for camp bursaries and two lucky recipients enjoyed a week long inclusive camp experience, as guests of the Calgary Zoo.
